At the Department of Culture and Learning, Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University, a full professor position in education research and internationalization is available from November 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

This is a full-time permanent position that includes research, teaching and research management. The applicant will be a part of the Department of Culture and Learning. It is important that the applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervision. The position is based at the campus in Aalborg and is affiliated with the research group Centre for Education Policy Research, which works with e.g. comparative, sociological and historical perspectives on education policy studies. For appointment as a professor, the ideal candidate is expected to:

  • teach, supervise and examine students in relevant modules in bachelor's and master's degree programmes in education and organization studies at the highest international level
  • supervise PhD students at the highest international level
  • lead and develop study programmes
  • conduct research and publish research products at the highest quality level in internationally recognised venues
  • handle research management of researchers with different research and cultural backgrounds
  • lead and participate in external research networks and partnerships, and obtain external funds of strategic importance
  • initiate and develop knowledge collaboration related to the position's scientific portfolio
  • contribute in a positive and constructive manner to the overall activities and working environment of the Department of Culture and Learning.

Applicants are expected to have comprehensive research experience in the following areas in intersection with each other:

  • International education governance
  • Education policy formation on a global, national and local level
  • Comparative education research
  • Sociology of education and/or history of education

In terms of research, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to produce research of the highest international quality
  • a research plan that harmonizes with the Department of Culture and Learning’s strategy and shows the applicant's plans for developing new research in the intersection between the above-mentioned areas
  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to initiate and develop external (national and international) partnerships
  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant's ability to engage in relevant research partnerships
  • experience with obtaining external funds of strategic importance
  • ability to engage in talent development, e.g. by attracting PhD scholarship funding and through the acquisition of external research funding to ensure the retention of young researchers

In relation to teaching, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience in the management and development of study programmes
  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to provide the highest-level instruction, with various pedagogical considerations and approaches, including supervision, conducting seminars, lectures etc.
  • experience in the supervision of PhD students, including PhD supervisor courses
  • At Aalborg University our learning approach is problem-based learning (PBL). Documented experience with this learning approach is therefore considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite.

The applicant is expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in Danish and English. In the case of the Danish language, the ideal applicant is alternatively expected to acquire relevant linguistic competence within an agreed timeframe.

The position of professor is a permanent position with obligation to research, teaching and publication/academic dissemination.

Applicants to the professorship are required to provide documentation of a substantial amount of original scientific production at international level, and documentation of significant contribution to the development of the research area in question. It is equally important that applicants are able to undertake research management or other kinds of management, pedagogical counselling and supervision as well as academic assessment tasks.

  • Complete publication list, marking the attached publications, to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment. A maximum of ten publications may be attached.
  • In case the applicant attaches publications elaborated ind collaboration with co-authors, a co-author statement must be enclosed, specifying the applicant's contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors Template co-author declaration
  • Documentation of teaching qualifications Guidance Teaching portfolio
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD)

All candidates will be assessed by an assessment committee. Applicants may subsequently be summoned to an interview and/or trial lecture.

This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
