At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Political Science, a position as Postdoc is open for appointment for a period of three years from 1 March 2018 or soon thereafter.

Job description

A three-year postdoc position is available at the Centre for Comparative Welfare Studies at Aalborg University in Denmark. The position is linked to the cross-disciplinary research project “Global flows of migrants and their impact on North European Welfare States” (FLOW) www.strategi.aau.dk/FLOW).

The senior staff members within the FLOW-project have a mixed background in political science, sociology and geography. We seek to establish a cross-disciplinary vibrant and excellent research team dealing with one of the most salient and contested issues in Western Europe. The postdoc will take part in working package 1, which focuses on descriptive analyses of income gaps between host- and origin countries etc., and working package 2, which focuses on descriptive analyses of migrants’ tax payments and use of welfare benefits and service in Denmark. The former task is primarily based on existing international statistics, while the latter task primarily is based on the rich Danish register data.

The position includes teaching experience, including a mandatory course on university pedagogic, in order to facilitate qualifications needed for permanent employment. The teaching will primarily take place at the School of Political Science in Aalborg. The FLOW-project-group is based both at the campus in Aalborg and in Copenhagen.

In order to qualify for the position, the applicant must have a relevant education within sociology, political science, geography or economics. The applicant should also be familiar with quantitative methods. Previous experience with the use of Danish register data is not mandatory but highly welcomed.
 
Qualification requirements

Candidates must have scientific qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures. To a limited extent other tasks may occur in the position.

Assessment

An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
