At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology one or more positions as Postdoc in musculoskeletal pain in children are open for appointment from December 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years.

Job description

A combined position between HST and the Center for General Practice at Aalborg University
The Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. The Center for General Practice is an inter-disciplinary research unit located in Aalborg, Denmark. We have a strong focus on musculoskeletal disorders, and the use of new technologies in general practice. The research unit currently employs approximately 35 researchers and administrative staff. The post-doctoral position currently open is within the OptiYouth Research group. In OptiYouth, our vision is to keep youth healthy and active. Our mission is to improve the health and function of youth, by generating and implementing knowledge and evidence on youth musculoskeletal health. 

What we offer
We offer a post-doctoral position of two years (which may be extended to three years), as part of a externally funded research project called "Investigating pathology and tissue biomarkers of Osgood Schlatter to enhance treatment of children with growth-related pain" which is funded by the IRFD. The successful candidate will use imaging (primarily MRI and ultrasonography) and novel pain assessments to investigate the pathophysiology of Osgood Schlatter. The fellowship includes funding for project expenses, a recurrent yearly annuum for travelling/conference participation, and a well-equipped office space and laptop. The working language at the unit and Aalborg University is English, and we regularly host international guests. Your development
You will be exposed to an inter-disciplinary group, where all group members are expected to help other grow and contribute to the team. You will be expected to participate in other students and researchers` projects, which may include opportunities such as mentoring and to learn new skills while doing so (from bachelor to PhD students). You will be mentored by a senior researcher, who will provide career development meetings with you to ensure your development during your post.doc and afterwards. 

What we request
We expect to hire a team player that will help to develop OptiYouth. The candidate for a post-doctoral fellowship will hold a PhD within the area of medicine, health science or equivalent. It is expected that the candidate has a track record of high-quality publications and it is desirable that the candidate has previous experience with MRI imaging, otherwise upskilling will be possible. It is desirable that the candidate has experience with clinical research. A high proficiency in oral and written English is required. Good dissemination skills are important.

This project is a collaboration between four different research institutions. The main workplace is Aalborg, Denmark, but the candidate should be prepared to work closely with collaborators in Netherlands, UK and Copenhagen. This will involve travelling and spending time abroad.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
