Research Assistant for Mass Customization Research Group

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production, a position as Research Assistant in the Mass Customization Research Group is open for appointment from 01.04.2020 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 1,5 year. Department of Materials and Production (M&P) has a wide-ranging research and educational environment at Aalborg University. The Department's mission is to meet the future's demands for new materials and production systems by directing the whole value chain from basic material understanding, materials' applications in mechanical constructions, industrial production and management. The department has several strong, international and innovative research groups which comprise everything from basic science to strategic and applicable research. The activities encompass research as well as education within materials, mechanics, physics, production technique, and industrial management and innovation. Benefitting the industry and additional collaborators several innovative and unconventional collaborations have been and are developed through interdisciplinary co-operations. Thereby, as an employee at the Department you will become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing/building and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Job description

The position contains teaching and supervision within the following domains: business intelligence, data analytics, database systems and data modelling, business development projects, enterprise modelling, data mining, etc. Moreover, the position contains research and administrative/project management work within a research project on implementation of changeable manufacturing in industry, covering research topics such as modularity, flexibility, reconfigurability, platforms, variety management, mass customization etc.

The research project will be conducted jointly with colleagues in the Mass Customization Research Group and in close collaboration with industry. The position will be an integrated part of a research project with the aim of developing and testing a design methodology and corresponding tools for reconfigurable manufacturing in industry. This objective is pursued through experimental projects in collaboration with industry partners, as well as competence development activities conducted with industry and academic partners. The position builds on continuous contact and collaboration with industry. In this context, the candidate is expected to handle a high level of interaction with industry, including planning, coordinating and carrying out knowledge dissemination in industry.

The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

  • Engaging in various forms and levels of research dissemination with industrial partners.
  • Communicating the findings to the public in general and to industrial stakeholders in particular.
  • Administrative and project management tasks within research project conducted in collaboration with industry.
  • Teaching and supervision will primarily be in connection with the Master programme in Operations and Supply Chain Management, the Master programme in Production, and the Bachelor programme in Global Business Engineering.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with qualifications in one or preferably more of the following areas:

  • Mass customization, variety management, modularity, and platforms.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Industrial research collaboration and experience with knowledge dissemination.
  • Commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and ability to work efficiently both as a part of a team and independently.
  • Experience with managing research projects is considered an advantage.
  • Teaching experience and experience with supervision in the mentioned topics in job description.

The required level of qualifications is at master level.

Appointment to Research Assistant may be for a period of up to three years. Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum three years. Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
