Researcher in Construction Management with a Sociotechnical Perspective (2020-224-02605)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science,  Department of the Built Environment (BUILD) at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a position as researcher in construction management with experience in implementation and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in a sociotechnical perspective is open for appointment from April 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter and for a period of 4 years.

Job description

An emerging need to address some of the fundamental societal challenges, namely the increased demands of digitalization of the construction sector to achieve improved productivity and the climate challenges are repeatedly expressed by researchers, politicians and companies. To understand these complex challenges it is important to focus on the processual consequences and effects of actions to increase the use of digital working methods and actions taken in attempt to mitigate climate changes. Thus, there is a need for research that studies the recursive relationship between technology and actors. This includes the role of technology in structuring actions and rationales on the one hand, and how actors perceive and shape new arenas of application of the technologies on the other hand.

To meet this increasing need for research, together with the need for education and dissemination within the field of construction management, BUILD is looking for a researcher with experience in implementation and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in ongoing construction projects studied from a sociotechnical perspective. The research field originates from sociotechnical studies of construction processes with a particular focus on the effect of digitalization strategies and sustainability objectives on processes of collaboration, coordination and knowledge production. The applicant will therefore contribute to understanding the implementation and use of ICTs in the construction projects as these processes occur ‘in practice’ and their effect on the collaboration among project participants.

The position is open in Research Group for Construction Management and Innovation at the Department of Building Technology and Management, and includes research, teaching, dissemination, government consultancy, business cooperation in the field of construction management and contribution to the development of research proposals for accessing national and international funding.

The applicant will contribute to the teaching and supervision activities in the research group, particularly at the Master of Science programme in Construction Management and Informatics. The focal point in the master programme is digitalization and transition processes in the construction industry. Possible association with the master program is an advantage.

BUILD has a wide network both nationally and internationally, and research is often conducted in collaboration with the industry, organizations and authorities.

A position at BUILD offers significant opportunities to influence the built environment, through government consultancy, SBi Guidelines, business collaboration, teaching and research dissemination. You will become part of a dynamic research environment, where the focus is on knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration on technical and social science assignments.
