Fundraiser and strategic advisor at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Aalborg University

Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Aalborg University, offers an open position as fundraiser and strategic advisor for a dedicated and service-minded candidate with expertise in external research funding. This is a permanent fulltime position, open for appointment by 1 June 2020 or soon after. The working place will be at Campus Aalborg, but the job will include activities also at the campuses in Esbjerg and Copenhagen. Department of Chemistry and Bioscience conducts extensive international top-class research that significantly contributes to the ranking of Aalborg University as the best engineering university in Europe. The department’s research areas address major societal challenges. As the future fundraiser and strategic advisor, you will support and promote the vast research potential of the department.


As fundraiser and strategic advisor at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, you will provide expert advice and strong support for our researchers in terms of external funding. You will be working closely with the department management, researchers and administrative colleagues as well as the central AAU Fundraising & Project Management (F&P). The research activities at the department cover a wide range of topics within the main areas of chemistry, biology, environmental science and biotechnology.

You will be responsible for the implementation of Aalborg University’s new strategy and co-operation model for a targeted professional research support at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience. In close collaboration with the researchers, you will be the driving force in establishing and organizing processes for grant applications and ensure collaboration between the researchers and the AAU F&P whenever relevant. You will also support individual project applications.

Your assignments and responsibilities as fundraiser and strategic advisor are to:

  • Act as the Department’s first-point-of-contact for both internal and external partners in fundraising
  • Establish overview of and report on department research applications
  • Prepare analyses and input for the management’s strategic research priorities
  • Develop and implement research funding strategic initiatives
  • Support the researchers in identifying relevant national and international funding possibilities
  • Collaborate with the departmental research areas to ensure that the research support matches the research strategies
  • Establish and operate funding networks across the departmental research areas
  • Act as sparring partner for the researchers throughout application processes and provide feedback on funding applications
  • Support competence development within research application for department researchers

It is important that you are flexible in terms of assignment priorities as these may change depending on the needs and the strategy of the department. 

Your qualifications: 

  • Documented experience with successful fundraising in relevant research areas
  • Interest in strategy and relevant research support
  • Good overview of existing fundraising opportunities
  • Distinct sense of spotting new fundraising potentials
  • The ability to cultivate and match research ideas with funding opportunities
  • Strong analytical skills, structured approach to your work and capable of working with short deadlines
  • Focus on following-up and completing both your own and shared tasks
  • Have an extended network within research and funding
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Work independently and proactively, take initiative and know how to set priorities when dealing with multiple deadlines
  • Thrive in a position with many contacts in a large organization
  • Hold a Master’s degree within engineering and science, preferably within the department’s research areas

Our primary activities at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience are research and research based teaching within chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, biology and biotechnology. We employ a staff of about 180 employees organized in 5 sections, each responsible for relevant research-based study programs:

  • Section of Biotechnology (Aalborg)
  • Section of Chemistry (Aalborg)
  • Section of Biology and Environmental Science (Aalborg)
  • Section of Chemical Engineering (Esbjerg)
  • Section of Sustainable Biotechnology (Copenhagen)

Our innovative and independent research is structured in research areas, all aiming to build a more sustainable future, having the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals in mind.

In both teaching and research, we combine theory and practice and emphasize collaboration with companies and public sector organizations both nationally and internationally. Our research based teaching encompasses both Bachelor's and Master's programs as well as PhD courses. Teaching is based on the inter-disciplinary, problem-based learning approach, the “PBL-Aalborg model”.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics. Availability supplement will be included. Supplement for qualifications is negotiable.

The first three months of the employment constitute a mutual probationary period.
