Assistant Professor in Macroeconomics

At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Business and Management a full time position as assistant professor in Macroeconimics is open for appointment from 1 October or soon thereafter for maximum 4 years.

Job description

The Department of Business and Management at Aalborg University is looking for an Assistant Professor that can contribute to teaching and supervision, research and knowledge dissemination at the Department that will be transformed to Aalborg University Business School on 1 September 2020.

The Assistant Professorship will be associated with the MaMTEP group (‘Macroeconomic Methodology, Theory and Economic Policy’) and must cover one or more of the following fields:

  • Macroeconomic theory (mainstream as well as Post-Keynesian theory)
  • Macroeconomic modelling (the approach of Stock Flow Consistent modelling)
  • Large Scale Macroeconometric Models for Denmark
  • Methodology

The applicants for the position are expected to take an active part in existing MaMTEP research projects within a research strategy focusing on primarily SFC-modelling and macroeconomic methodology. As such, the applicants are expected to identify and discuss challenges/problems for the Danish Economy. Therefore, experience with developing Large Scale Models, including fully theoretical grounded models and macro econometric models is preferable, but not a necessary requirement. Furthermore, the applicants are expected to be active in attracting external funding. As the MaMTEP group is part of an international network within the field of heterodox Post-Keynesianism, the applicants are expected to take an active part in these networking activities.

Teaching activities include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning at the department’s study program in economics (BA and MA). The applicants are expected to contribute to the ongoing revision and development of various macroeconomic courses at our BA and MA.

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to ensure that assistant professorships provide career opportunities both within and outside of the university. For that reason, assistant professorships are formed in a manner ensuring that the competencies achieved in the position qualify for a career within research as well as a career in the private and/or public sector. Qualification requirements
Applicants for the post of assistant professor must hold a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures.

Moreover it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
