2020-224-03016 Assistant Professor in power electronics based power system reliability

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a position as Assistant Professor in power electronics based power system reliability is open for appointment in the period 1 October 2020 or soon hereafter to 30 September 2024. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (power systems, power electronics, electrical machines) to thermal energy including energy systems, fluid mechanics and combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department consists of about 280 employees with more than 120 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out is most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Efficient and Reliable Power Electronics" and the Assistant Professor will be positioned to the section for Power Electronic Systems.

Job description

The research area will cover topics in the field of power electronics, with specific focus on reliable and efficient design, planning and operation of power electronics based power systems (PEPS). The target methods may include mission profile modeling, system-level reliability assessment methods, probabilistic techniques applications in power systems, reliable design approaches of the power electronics converters and systems. The tasks will also include model-based reliable and efficient development of modern PEPS with high penetration of renewable energies.

A great application prerequisite that you demonstrate a documented expertise in most of the areas below:

  • System-level reliability modeling in PEPS from component-level (e.g. power semiconductor, capacitors, etc.) up to system-level (e.g. power converter, power system).
  • Mission profile-based reliability assessment techniques
  • Advanced control strategies for reliability enhancement in PEPS
  • Basic reliability engineering concepts (FMECA - Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis, Stress-strength Analysis, Markov- semi-Markov techniques, Monte Carlo Simulations, Weibull Analysis, …) and their application to PEPS.
  • Control and operation of power electronic converters in AC-DC microgrids and renewable generations
  • Teamwork spirit, sense of responsibility and leadership.
  • Outreach and dissemination.
Teaching will include both courses and supervision based on the PBL model. The course teaching will primarily be in power electronics reliability, control, design and planning of modern power electronic based power systems, but also in other study programmes at the university. It is expected that you are able to supervise on the B.Sc. education in Energy Engineering.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
