Assistant professor in social work

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Social Work a position as assistant professor in social work is open for appointment from March 1, 2021, or soon thereafter. The assistant professorship is a fulltime 4-year position.

Job description

The position as Assistant Professor in Social Work should contribute to national and international cross-disciplinary research with a focus on human development and social change. Relevant research could be, but is not limited to, the shaping of identity within social relations and groups with a focus on e.g. human development, participation, collaboration and/or forms of citizenship in processes of social change and innovation. The position is affiliated to Research in Social Work (FoSo).

The position involves taking part in teaching activities including supervision, coordination and development of courses for social work students primarily in psychology relevant for understanding human and social change at Bachelor of Social Work and the Master in Social Work at Department of Sociology and Social Work. The position involves participation in the course University Pedagogy for Assistant professors at Aalborg University.

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to ensure that assistant professorships provide career opportunities both within and outside of the university. For that reason, assistant professorships are formed in a manner ensuring that the competencies achieved in the position qualify for a career within research as well as a career in the private and/or public sector. No later than one year before the termination of the position, you are offered an interview in order to clarify your further career.

Qualification requirements
Applicants for the post of assistant professor must hold a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures.

Applicants that holds a candidate degree in psychology (Cand. Psych. or similar) and can demonstrate a cross-disciplinary interest in conducting research and teaching within the field of social science and social work will be preferred.

Moreover, it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL), which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

• Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration.

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Agreement

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
