Professor of Health Economics

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, a position as Professor of Health Economics is open for appointment as of February 2021 or soon hereafter. The vacant position is with the research group Danish Center for Healthcare Improvements (DCHI). DCHI was established in 2011 as a collaboration between Aalborg University and the North Denmark Region. It is an interdisciplinary and application-oriented research group located at the Department of Clinical Medicine. The overall aim of DCHI is to improve healthcare by providing decision makers with qualified and research-based input for decision-making. DCHI does methodological and applied research within the field of health services research especially health economics and quality improvement. In the coming years, Aalborg University and DCHI strives to strengthen the research field within health economics. One particular important area of research is the methods and analyses used for prioritization in health care. In Denmark, the Treatment Council located in Aalborg is a new institution established to prioritize health care resources to the technologies and interventions that provide the most value for money. With this position, AAU and DCHI particularly want to underpin the cooperation with the Treatment Council.

Job description

This professorship should strengthen the strategic and applied research within DCHI. A part of the job will be to enhance DCHIs international research cooperation to help increase the quality of DCHI’s research. Another part of the job is to help DCHI attract research funding and carry out research projects together with other researchers from DCHI and its’ collaborators. A special focus area of DCHI’s research concerns the methods for prioritization and decision making in health care (both methodological and applied research), especially health economic evaluation. A part of this research should be directed towards methods used, and challenges faced by the new Treatment Council in Aalborg.

The position consists of both research and teaching. DCHI are responsible for courses at the bachelor, master, and PhD-level. The appointment includes an obligation to participate in the planning and teaching of relevant courses and to help develop new courses. The teaching is primarily at the Master program of Public Health and the Master program of Medicine with Industrial Specialization, Medical Market Access, and Master in economics (cand.oecon) at Aalborg University. Additionally, the teaching includes project supervision and examination of students.

Qualification requirements:
The successful applicant:

  • has more than 20 years of relevant research experience documented by research publications on a wide range of topics within health services research and health economics.
  • has a successful track record of attracting external research from Danish and international funding including EU-research funds.
  • can demonstrate a strong international research activity that includes international cooperation for funding, and participation in an international research council.
  • has a broad teaching experience at the graduate level in health economics and health services research and is an experienced supervisor for Ph.D.-students, and examiner at Ph.D.-level and scientific positions.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
