The Department of Sociology and Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences, Aalborg University, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Social Work focusing on vulnerable children and youth. The position is available from July 1st, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. Social Work Research at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Aalborg University is concerned with investigating social and human processes of change related to social work and social problems in a broad sense. Research is made relevant to society through dialogue, interaction and collaboration with stakeholders, practitioners etc. and is characterized by diversity and cross-disciplinarily in terms of theoretical, methodological, empirical and practical approaches. The position will offer good possibilities for national and international collaboration.

Job description

The position should contribute substantially to strengthening the department’s national and international profile in Social Work Research emphasizing research focusing on vulnerable children and youth.

The applicant must demonstrate empirical and theoretical knowledge as well as strong competences within the field of vulnerable children and youth and the practice of social work in relation to this group.

The applicant should demonstrate strong methodological and theoretical qualifications in relation to social work research and practice. We welcome applicants with methodological competences in both quantitative and qualitative methods.

The applicant is expected to contribute to advancing the research on vulnerable children and youth relevant to Social Work through development of research projects, interaction with relevant stakeholders and dissemination of research.

Moreover, it is expected that the applicant’s research can contribute to research based teaching at the department’s study programmes within the field of Social Work in general and Social Work targeting vulnerable children and youth in particular. Thus, the position involves teaching activities such as lecturing, supervision of students, coordination, planning and developing courses within study programmes ranging from bachelor to master level.

Moreover, it is expected that Associate Professors contribute to Ph.D.-supervision and -teaching, academic assessments and other activities related to being a part of a collective research community.

It is a precondition that applicants for the position as associate professor have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. Applicants must document scientific production at an international level with an emphasize on social work research targeting vulnerable children and youth, as well as experience with teaching at social work study programmes. It is an advantage but not a prerequisite that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL), which is the teaching philosophy of Aalborg University.

The position will be affiliated to Social Work Research, Department of Sociology and Social Work, Aalborg University, Denmark that covers a wide range of research relevant for and connected to a national and international research community.   • List of publications that the applicant wishes to be considered. A maximum of 10 publications may be submitted. It is possible to submit articles written in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English.
  • Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. The first 3 months of your employment is a trial period.
