At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology one or more permanent position/positions as Associate Professor in Modeling and Optimization of P2X is open for appointment from 1st of October 2021 or soon thereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings. The department has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. The department has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is located in Aalborg. The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. The department has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 24 are administrative staff. In addition, the department constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world. Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.  The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems, Fluid Mechanics and Combustion and Mechatronic systems. The position is offered in relation to the Research Program in Electro Fuels and the Associate Professor will be positioned in the thermal energy section at the department.

Job description

Research areas will be within the development of novel Power-2-X systems used to produce sustainable fuels including the electrochemical conversion in electrolysis systems and chemical synthesis.

It is a requirement that candidates should have a background in chemical or thermal process engineering and have experience with modeling and experimental work with chemical synthesis systems, electrochemical systems, distillation systems, catalytic reactors, and fluid dynamics as well as heat and mass transfer topics related to chemical synthesis systems used to produce sustainable fuels and chemicals.
Additionally, competencies and experience in the field of process integration such as heat exchanger network synthesis are also important to the position. It is also required that the candidate has experience with dynamic modeling of chemical process systems.
Candidates should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree and have a substantial background within as well theoretical as experimental work in the abovementioned fields. The position will involve in external research projects in collaboration with industry and research institutions for instance in the field of methanol production using power-2-x systems.
It is thus considered an advantage if candidates have previous experience as researcher in industrial research projects, have received own project grants or managed research projects.

The teaching assignments related to the position will primarily be supervision of students and lectures in topics such as chemical reactor modeling, catalysis and heat and mass transfer on the thermal educations at Department of Energy Technology.
Preferably candidates should have received pedagogical training or have previous experience with teaching and supervision. If candidates have no previous pedagogical training, it will be a requirement to enroll to and complete the assistant professor pedagogical training course at Aalborg University as soon as possible after employment. It is also considered important that candidates either speak or during the coming years is willing to learn Danish, as many teaching activities at the department are conducted in Danish. Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
