At the Department of Health Science and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine, a position as Professor in Biomedical Engineering & Electrocardiology is open for appointment from October 1st 2021 or soon thereafter.

Job description

Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research, teaching and dissemination within biomedical engineering, sports science and medicine. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 100 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department. The researchers are organized in a number of research groups and centres, and the department has at its disposal laboratory and clean room facilities for cell growth, molecular biology, brain analysis, 3D movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, etc. All study programs at Aalborg University involve problem-based learning, organized around cases and projects. Research: The successful candidate has a Ph.D degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent, with strong research qualifications within engineering in electrocardiology and electrophysiology and must demonstrate a strong interest in collaboration with national and international specialists in cardiology and Biomedical Engineering. The department has a long-standing focus on the integration of engineering and medicine with an applied and a strategic perspective, and the successful candidate must have an interest in pursuing this objective further.

Teaching: The successful candidate has a teaching portfolio that demonstrates teaching qualifications and the ability to develop teaching activities in relevant programs at the department (which include, among others, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, Medicine with industrial specialization, Public Health, and Clinical Science and Technology). The successful candidate may also have teaching duties at other programs at the department and at the university, including the doctoral schools and should demonstrate teaching experience at the graduate and post-graduate levels, such as PhD supervision. The majority of the teaching will be conducted in Danish, but also English-taught programs are present. 

Funding and external collaboration: The successful candidate can demonstrate the ability to attract external funding for research, both individually and in collaboration with colleagues from his or her own institution and in collaboration with other institutions. Moreover, it is expected that he or she will have an interest in utilization and implementation of research results in collaboration with health care professionals, industry and the surrounding society.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate scientific production and originality within engineering in cardiology and who can demonstrate the ability to procure external funding. The ability to contribute to the development of external cooperation will also be taken into account. In addition, the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities.

Qualification requirements:
The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). pedagogical education and continuing education (e.g. within research management). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • A research plan describing the intentions and visions for the position 
  • A teaching portfolio. The portfolio may include documentation of the candidate’s experience with problem based learning (PBL), initiatives within teaching, experience with development of teaching materials and curriculum development. If a portfolio is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Description of other qualifications, such as research and project management expertise, experience with acquiring external funding, dissemination qualifications, participation in committees, boards, organizations ect. 
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
