Assistant Professor in Smart Power Electronics with Wireless Control (2021-224-03622)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Assistant Professor in Smart Power Electronics with wireless control is open for appointment from 01.11.2021 or soon hereafter for 4 years in total. The department has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is located in Aalborg. The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future.The department has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 24 are administrative staff. In addition, the department constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world. Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

Job description

The position is offered in relation to the research program "Battery Storage Systems" and the assistant professor will be positioned to the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.

Research areas will be within intelligent power electronics for smart batteries including wireless communication and distributed control. The work will focus on research of design and optimization of the control of smart battery systems with focus on loss-minimization of bypass device and exploration of advanced control functions including SoH balancing, charging control and voltage control by using distributed wireless control technology.

It is expected that applicants have a strong background within the field of power electronics for renewable energy systems with focus on power converter design and control (dc/dc, dc/ac) and WBD converter design demonstrated by publications in highly ranked international journals/conferences. It is preferable to have hands on experience in implementing advanced control algorithms in digital signal processors and FPGAs.
The ideal candidate should have accomplished a postdoctoral position in a leading institution along with industry experience in the field of power electronics. The candidate should also preferably have patents in addition to peer reviewed publications.

Teaching will primarily be in power electronics for renewable energy systems, storage systems, electro-mobility at BSc, MSc and PHD level, but also in other study programmes at the University.
The candidate should have teaching experience at MSc and/or PhD levels.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
