At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology one or more Professors in the area of rehabilitation and robotics is vacant from November 1st 2021 or soon hereafter.

Job description

Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research, teaching and dissemination within biomedical engineering, sports science and medicine. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 100 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department. The researchers are organized in a number of research groups and centres, and the department has at its disposal laboratory and clean room facilities for cell growth, molecular biology, brain analysis, 3D movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, etc. All study programs at Aalborg University involve problem-based learning, organized around cases and projects. The position:
Rehabilitation is relevant to the needs of people with many health conditions and those experiencing disability across the lifespan and across all levels of health care. With its objective of optimizing or replacing functioning, rehabilitation supports those with health conditions to remain as independent as possible and fulfil meaningful life roles. As such, the availability of accessible and affordable rehabilitation interfaces and devices plays a fundamental role. 

At the Department of Health Science and Technology, there is a strong tradition for working with many aspects of rehabilitation. We now wish to strengthen our expertise and research portfolio within the area of rehabilitation and robotics.

Qualification requirements:

Areas of expertise within one or more of the following areas will be required: 

  • A Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or similar
  • Human-machine interfacing for rehabilitation purposes
  • Assistive or rehabilitative robotics, including hybrid models
  • Prosthetic devices, exoskeletons, brain-machine interfaces and/or tounge based hybrid interfacing
  • Modeling, control and sensory feedback of the devices
  • Design, development and test of human-machine interfaces
  • Conducting experimental work with human subjects and patients in the laboratory, in the clinic or in the patient’s home
  • Research management
  • Experience with working with relevant stakeholders, industrial partners and innovation
  • Experience with teaching within one or more areas mentioned above 

The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • A research plan describing the intentions and visions for the position
  • Description of other qualifications, such as research and project management expertise, experience with acquiring external funding, dissemination qualifications, participation in committees, boards, organizations ect. 
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
