At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Professor in Digital Transformation of Power Electronics Based Energy Systems is open for appointment from 1st August 2022 or soon hereafter.

Job description

AAU Energy is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings. AAU Energy has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. AAU Energy has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg; this position is in Aalborg. 

The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world. 

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent. 

The position is offered in relation to the research mission on Digital Transformation and AI for Smart and Resilient Energy Systems, and the professor will be positioned to the section of Applied Power Electronic Systems.

The successful candidate will be a central figure in developing and taking a leading role in the digital energy research area. Leadership qualifications are emphasized for this role.

The candidate must have a relevant research background within the digital energy research. Research challenges include application of cloud & edge computing, machine learning and communication technologies to optimize the control, design and diagnostics of power electronic converters and converter-based energy systems. Furthermore, the candidate has experience in developing innovative approaches for computationally efficient and secure controlling, designing and monitoring power electronics converters and systems with a proven ability and technical skills to develop lab-scale prototypes and real-world demonstration sites. 

The candidate must have a proven track record in terms of publications at the highest international level within the area, interdisciplinary research collaborations with top universities internationally, and national and regional collaborations with private and public organizations and industry. Aalborg University features a problem-based learning approach, thus candidates with experience in group supervision are especially welcome. 

We expect that the successful applicant will actively participate in the daily life at the department and fundraising to increase research activities within the area. Your motivated application must contain a 3-year research plan of 1-2 pages, preferable contact information to two or three references, a CV, a link to either your Google scholar profile, ResearcherID or a unique search profile or query from Web of Science or Publish or Perish with your publication and citation record. 

The candidate must document a strong international profile and experience in attracting research funding. 

The professorship is a full-time position with teaching responsibilities, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development of world class teaching within the research area. Teaching will primarily be in the areas of power electronics and energy systems at B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. level within the Energy study program. Teaching at other study programs within AAU may occur. Experience with problem-based learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University’s main teaching philosophy is prioritized. 

The candidate should be able to document extended research at a high international research level, as well as provide a form of portfolio documentation of teaching competences and experience.

Qualification requirements:
The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
