At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a tenure position as Associate Professor in Magnetics Components for Power Electronics, is open for appointments from October 1, 2025, or soon hereafter.

Who we are
AAU Energy is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings. AAU Energy has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. AAU Energy has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is in Aalborg.

The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position is offered in relation to the research program SPELL and the Associate Professor will be positioned in the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.

Research areas will be within magnetic components and materials for the electrical green transition. The focus is on modeling components, designing the components and manufacturing components. Demonstration of components in the laboratory and experience with characterization of the components by lumped parameter extraction for models. Research in innovative manufacturing methods is relevant.

Teaching will primarily be in Power Electronics and Drives, but also in other study programs at the University. Experience giving conferences, workshop tutorials and PhD courses are welcome.

The candidate must hold a PhD degree in relevant research area with a portfolio of publications on magnetics components. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to establish a network of kindred spirits on magnetic components nationally and internationally, giving this research platform a critical mass of researchers and to ensure knowledge sharing.

The position is a platform for a world leading researcher to establish a team of researchers doing groundbreaking work leading to fundamental discoveries and innovations. A successful applicant must have shown ability to publish research results in leading journals and conferences. The novelty of applicant ideas must be demonstrated by the ability to do patents and patent  applications. Innovations as patents and ability to engage in the commercial and business aspect by spin-out activities is a mandatory skill.

As a potential associate professor, you have a portfolio of granted research grants and some level of expertise with people management including co-supervision. Establish a network of potential project industrial and academic partners.

The future goals of the research field Magnetics Components for Power Electronics should be clearly formulated on a short and midterm time horizon. Goals include research applications, research publications, patents and spinout activities.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.  

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications
