Professor of International or European Politics
At The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Politics and Society one or more positions as full professor of International and/or European Politics will be open for appointment from 1 January 2026 or soon thereafter.
Your work tasks
We seek an experienced scholar with a proven track record in research, teaching and service to the field within one or more of the following areas:
• International politics, international relations, security policy, conflict and conflict resolution
• European politics and society, EU institutions and policy
Successful applicants are expected to develop research and teaching within one of the fields listed above and thus contribute actively to the development of the department's mission of excellence in research and education. Based at our main campus in Aalborg, they will:
- conduct and publish high-quality research in leading international academic journals
- secure external funding for research projects
- engage in research collaborations with relevant partners both within and outside academia
- take responsibility for the strategic development of their respective research groups and the department in general
- teach and supervise at undergraduate and graduate level in the department’s political science and international relations study programs (teaching and supervision will be in English and/or Danish)
- supervise and mentor PhD students and postdoctoral fellows
- engage in professional service activities, including academic associations and editorial boards
- disseminate research results and engage with the wider public through various media
Qualification requirements
Successful applicants are expected to hold a PhD in political science, international relations or a closely related field.
We expect successful applicants to have a solid and recognized position within their particular areas of research expertise. This includes sustained production of original academic output published at the highest international level. Applicants must also have solid experience in acquiring external grants, managing and leading collaborative research projects, and supervising Ph.D. students and/or other early career scholars.
Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on comprehensive teaching experience and experience with curriculum development. Experience with problem-based learning (PBL) is an advantage but not a requirement.
Applicants with little or no proficiency in Danish or another Scandinavian language are expected to acquire basic Danish proficiency within three years.
