Postdoc in Postdoc in Battery System Optimization and Management
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Postdoc in Battery System
Optimization and Management is open for appointment from January 1, 2026, or soon hereafter. The duration of the position is two years.
Your work tasks
The position is part of the BlueBat project, funded by Oriens’s Fond, which aims to advance battery systems for sustainable maritime electrification.
The Postdoc will conduct research on methods to enhance the performance, safety, and lifetime of lithium-ion batteries by integrating physics-based modeling with data-driven approaches. The work will include the development of electro-thermal models, state estimation methods, and control strategies to support efficient battery operation and thermal management.
The Postdoc will collaborate with colleagues at AAU Energy, the Department of Mathematical Sciences, and industrial partners to ensure strong scientific and practical outcomes. In addition, the Postdoc will contribute to teaching and student supervision, as well as to the dissemination of research results through peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.
The Postdoc will be positioned in the section for Power Electronics System Integration and Materials.
Your competencies
The applicant must hold a master’s degree in engineering and a PhD in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering, with expertise in physics-based modeling, machine learning, and optimization of lithium-ion batteries. The ideal candidate should have a strong research interest in battery system design, optimization, and management. The successful applicant must be proficient in English, possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, and be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
The applicant should have documented research experience in:
- Battery state of temperature estimation and prediction
- Physics-informed machine learning for battery state monitoring
- Electro-thermal coupled modeling of lithium-ion batteries
- Optimization of charging/discharging and thermal management of the battery pack
Qualification requirements
Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
